Description
This Colt Frontier Six Shooter is an antique Single Action Army from 1881 that has been given a careful second life through a full refurbishment and rebarrel, likely completed in the late 20th century. The modern replacement barrel retains the classic etched-panel marking “COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER” on the left side, along with the one-line Hartford address on top. Traditional blade front and notch rear sights, a 7 1/2" round barrel, and a blue/casehardened finish keep the Old West profile intact while providing a clean, presentable look for display or occasional range use.
The frame still wears the three-line, three-date patent marking with “44 CF” stamped on the trigger guard, denoting the classic .44-40 chambering. Matching numbers appear on the frame, barrel (beneath the ejector housing), grip frame, and cylinder, reinforcing that this is a true Colt SAA that has simply been refreshed rather than pieced together. The refinished case colors show a mellow, fading appearance, while the restored blue finish exhibits honest wear, patina, and cylinder turn lines that give it character without overshadowing its appeal.
A smooth, one-piece walnut grip completes the look, revarnished and still in very good shape with only minor dents and scuffs. Mechanically, the revolver is reported as fine, making it an attractive option for the collector who wants an 1880s Colt with sharp etched markings at a more approachable price point than a completely original example.
